The group gallery now has new sections that I think better reflect the group's mission. We are not an art collection group, but rather more about disseminating information.

We have two gallery sections. One to contain tutorials and information.

The other is meant for member profiles. I have seen other groups that offered a standard template that each member was meant to fill in with their information, but I think that you are all mature adults with professional aesthetic sensibilities who can design your own profile composition including whatever information is important for YOUR line of work.
Just a quick reminder to remember to track your hours on all projects, billable and otherwise.

I know we all know that we should be tracking our hours, but when you are in the middle of several projects, it can fall by the wayside. Or if you have gotten into a groove of doing many similar projects and you think you already know just how long they can take. But times can shift, drifting longer as you incorporate new concepts you didn't know about when you first started, or getting shorter as you get more practiced and proficient.

When you're just starting out, it is also easy to forget to track your hours when faced with the mountain of other business things that you need to track. But the only way to know if your practices and prices are realistic and up to date is to document, document, document.

I myself am guilty of only sporadically tracking my hours. Time to step up my game!

Join Us!

To Join
To join, you must be a professional artist (defined very loosely as getting at least half your income from creative work) or an aspiring artist on their way to becoming professional. Students are welcome so long as you are also currently seeking artistic work to help support yourself.

Staff artists are just as welcome as freelancers. Furthermore, our definitions of "art" and "creative work" are very broad, and we are open to graphic, print and web designers, painters, sculptors, animators, jewelry makers, pixel artists, colorists, inkers, concept artists, writers, and many more. If you believe what you do qualifies as freelance art or creative work, we most likely believe it does, too. While each of these fields will have concerns specific to them, many of the issues that artists face are the same no matter what niche they are in.

If you aren't yet a working artist but have dreams of one day "going pro," you are still welcome to benefit from our discussions, but we ask that you click "watch" instead of "join."

When joining, please submit a very brief description of the kinds of work you do or are seeking. We don't need any other proof than your word. If you're a logo artist, all you'd need to tell us is "logo design."

Why Join?
Are you a freelancing creative type? It can be rough out there. Get support, information and community to help you succeed. We will hold periodic discussions on topics like how to set (and defend) your pricing or best practices, and start to compile the best tips our members have into a FAQ-like resource for all our members and watchers.

I don't earn much by freelance work so far - I've only had 2 commissions. But I've only started getting into the industry. I hope to earn money with my art some day, but so far I'm not. Does it mean I qualify as Aspiring Artist and qualify to join this group?

Apologies to all for being somewhat inattentive over the past week. I've been snowed under by work, and trying to get it all out of the way before I go on vacation NEXT week.

Again, the brief description of the kind of work you do was just for joining. Since you're already a member, it means you already told us. You don't have to submit it again. ;)

Sorry about that! I'm new to this whole group thing, and I didn't realize the groups didn't start off ready to accept art by default. I believe there should now be a "contribute art" button appearing for all members.

The brief description of what kind of work you do is for joining. When you click "join group" a little box should pop up that you can type some information into before sending.
